What is Acupuncture and how does it work?
Acupuncture is an ancient form of Eastern Medicine over 5000 years old that promotes health and balance within the body. There are several energetic pathways that carry qi (vital energy), fluids and blood to all areas. When a pathway is blocked because of trauma, or lifestyle habits, the qi and blood does not reach all areas of the body, this creates pain or illness. This can also occur if one does not have enough vital energy. The insertion of needles in specific points along the pathways correct the imbalances and relieves the symptoms.
Is Acupuncture safe?
When practiced by a licensed Acupuncturist it is extremely safe. With over 3000 hours of clinical and classroom training, Ana knows the proper needling technique and depth at all locations. The needles are sterile, disposable (one-use), and FDA approved.
In addition, since acupuncture is a drug-free treatment, there are no adverse affects.
What to expect during a treatment?
The first treatment is 1 ½ hours long and includes an in-depth health intake, channel palpation, tongue & pulse diagnosis. The health intake covers all systems (respiratory, cardiovascular, muscular, skeletal, digestive, skin, endocrine, lymphatic, nervous, reproductive and urinary), so the practitioner can make the proper diagnosis.
Using the information obtained, points are selected and the patient is treated on either the back or the front of the body. The needles are inserted and left for 20 – 30 minutes, after which all the needles are removed. Adjunct therapies that may be used include: moxa, cupping, gua sha or heat lamp may be used. All subsequent treatments will be 1 hour.
